Destination Space: Living on Other Planets By Dr. Dave Williams (149)

There is so much that is interesting in our solar system. This wonderful informative, clear and illustrative book helps us understand how vast and wonderful our planets are.

This book is written by Dr. Dave who knows the planets first-hand. Has among the first people to drill on the surface of the moon during the Apollo 15 Mission.

The book inspires us to dream about our planets and beyond. There is a space craft that has traveled beyond our solar system. We are even encouraged to dream of life on other planets. This isn’t farfetched anymore.

The first thing we have to remember is that there is life on other planets. Are things alive as here on earth? Well, it all depends on what we mean by alive. A whale, flea, and bacteria are all alive. This is because small, big or microscopic, living things are made up of tiny cells. And the cells are all alive. So, there are lots of different kinds of life!

Scientists are exploring the possibility of life on other planets where the temperature is just right for liquid water to exist.

Why worry about life on other planets? Well there are a few reasons.

  1. We are overcrowded. Therefore, as our population increases, having another planet to go to can really help.
  2. Something can force us to leave the earth such as asteroids, rising sea levels, deadly diseases, and water or food shortages.

So, astronomers are looking for life on Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune and Saturn as well as Mercury, and many more. But how can we live on these planets? How can we travel there? What will we eat? What will we do? These are all unanswered questions that scientists are trying to answer.

We don’t want to wait until it’s too late. We want to be proactively searching for solutions to our problems.

This is a book that is jam-packed with information and important references. It could be used for class projects and much more.

I loved the book, and was greatly informed by it!
