Bad Kitten by Ellen Rumsey (139)

I just love cats! I think I’ve had a cat for the last 40+ years in my life. So, when I saw this new book, I knew I had to read it!

In addition to being cute and funny, it has a great message. It encourages the young reader to always be yourself. This is a great message given all the comparisons that are out there for both boys and girls.

This story is about two cats, Ying and Yang. Yang was tidy, obedient, and never did anything wrong. Ying, on the other hand, was always getting into trouble. He was adventuresome and messy.

Ying and Yang both lived in a pet store waiting to be adopted. Yang got adopted first. It took a while for Ying to be adopted. He hoped and wished to leave the pet store and find a forever home. He always really wanted someone to love him and give him lots of food and a bigger place to live.

One day, he was indeed adopted. The perfect lady who wanted to give this little imperfect kitten a forever home came and rescued him. Finally he was happy. He had treats, toys, food and many adventures. He also had other cats to play with and a person who really loved him and allowed him to be who he truly was.

His adopted mom just let him be do what he wanted, within reason of course. When he misbehaved, she would encourage him to stop.

I loved this book!  It is a cute book with a powerful message. Always be yourself, and your true friends are people who accept who you are. The illustrations were also colourful and bold, bringing the message of the book clearer to mind for the reader.
