This is another great book by Gabrielle Roy. I took out a few from the library. And I have enjoyed reading all of them. What a wonderful writer she is!
This story is as pure as the lives of the people Roy portrays. It is very unforgettable and wonderful too.
The story is set in the remote wilderness of northern Manitoba. This sunny, tender idyll of daily frontier life captures the spirit and surroundings of the pioneers. Roy is not so much concerned with the adventurers and trail blazers who make the headlines but rather the humble folk who follow after and remain, living out their lives in obscurity to keep the trails open.
This is Roy’s second novel. It is a sensitive and sympathetic tale that captures both the innocence and vitality of a sparsely populated frontier.
I love GREAT stories, and this is just one story that I will be reading over and over again as time goes on. It is like a warm cup of tea on a cold winter’s evening!
