Girl in the Know:
Your Inside-and-Out Guide to Growing Up
By: Anne Katz, and Monika Melnychuk
Girl in the Know is a great book by a Canadian author about every aspect of being an adolescent girl. Puberty can be such a difficult time for adolescent girls. In this book, Anne Katz shows girls what to expect during puberty. She not only discusses the physical changes that girls go through and have to endure but also some of the psychological changes that will be a part of adolescence and how girls can deal with them most intelligently.
In addition, Katz discusses how an adolescent girl could take care of her self so that she can handle all the social challenges that she’ll be enduring during this complicated time in a girl’s life. An adolescent girl’s life is very complicated in our culture–there is peer pressure, and bullying. Then there are the issues of how adolescent girls can stay healthy, exercise, meditate, and so on. After reading this book, adolescent girls will learn how to be their be-you-tiful best, inside and out.
Monika Melnychuk’s illustrations in the book are also very well done and clear. It brings the important message of each chapter to teen readers.
I recommend this book for teen girls and their mothers. It is a great book to share and to open discussion about all the important matters of growing up as an adolescent girl.
