The Last Tree Ingrid Chabbert (154)

This is a wonderful picture book for kids about nature and how trees are sometimes replaced by high-rise buildings.  It is a book that will make the younger reader think and ponder the importance of nature and trees in our midst.

The story is about a tree. It is at the edge of a concrete city, behind a crumbling wall. A young boy comes upon the little tree. He is enchanted by its fragile beauty. He wants to preserve it for posterity. But can he do it?

He enlists his friend to help him out. But time is running out and the tree doesn’t seem to be doing well there anyways.  It is way too cooped up to freely grow and express its naturalness.

I loved the book!  I think it will really inspire the love of nature in kids of all ages. It certainly will make me look at trees in a new way too. That is the mark of a GREAT book!
