Going Ashore by Mavis Gallant (131)

This is a newer book by Mavis Gallant. The book is another treasure throve of little-known stories. They are missing stories. Some had the misfortune to be published in other books that have gone out of print. However, fifteen of these stories have never seen print. Yet, they are wonderful and I am SO glad that she decided to publish them.

The short satirical pieces are a great surprise and a delight. It shows the many sides of Gallant’s writing, and the many ways that she could write a story–one that will be remembered for many years to come.

I am so glad I decided to devote a part of my holiday to Mavis Gallant!  If some of you in the Book Mine group didn’t yet read her work, I would strongly advise you to take a book or two out.  Just prepared to be hooked…
