The Amazing Absorbing Boy (33)

This is a very engaging novel about one amazing boy who really inspired me during the novel. I am sure it will inspire most readers who read this book.

This is a story that is written by a boy. Children have a limited perspective. But they have a depth that is somehow lost by adults. They also have a carefree and free way of looking at life that is like a breath of air on a hot summer day!

Maharaj is a wonderful writer because he has a unique perspective and point of view. He has a great imagination and creates memorable characters such as Uncle Boysie and the boy’s father.

In a few places I thought the comic book analogies were a bit over the top. Overall the novel creates a fascinating sense of the immigrant’s place, both in Trinidad and Canada.

I enjoyed this book very much. This writer takes chances, leaps of faith, and is rewarded with an unusual, quirky literature that will last.
