Here Comes Hortense (137)

This is a super-fun picture book that is written by Heather Hartt-Sussman and illustrated by Georgia Graham. It is a book that kids of all ages will enjoy and relish.

What could be more fun for a six-year-old than having your nana and her new husband take you a theme park? Most kids would really look forward to that!

But the fun is spoiled when Nana and Bob announce that they have a big surprise: they are all going to be joined by Bob’s granddaughter, Hortense.

When the fearless and fun-loving Hortense seems to stick like glue to Nana, sharing her room, listening to her stories, even going on all the scary rides with her, it turns out to be the worse surprise ever!

This is a book about jealousy that most kids will be able to relate to. However, the story is relayed in such an interesting and compassionate way, that most kids will be soothed by it, even the more uncertain kids.
