Noni Speaks Up (131)

This is a wonderful picture book with a great message for kids. It is written by Heather Hartt-Sussman and illustrated by Genevieve Cote.  It is a book that must be read by all kids 3 to 8, especially girls.

Noni always tries to do the right thing. but she doesn’t know how to help Hector, her classmate, who is constantly bullied for his name, his size and his giant glasses.

Noni stands by silently, afraid that the kids will turn on her if she speaks up. Yet, when she does nothing, she feels terrible. She feels that she should be doing something to help out her classmate. Will Noni be brave enough to take matters into her own hands?

This story is charming but has a very important lesson for kids. You must speak up when people are bullied and not just stand by the side and do nothing. You don’t need to be a passive bystander!  YES!!!  YOU can do something about it!

I love this book and its message. The illustrations are also very playful and expressive. It is a heartwarming exploration of conquering fear and finding the courage to step outside of your comfort zone.
