Pierre Trudeau (96)

Pierre Trudeau
By Richard Gwyn

Pierre Trudeau was a one of a kind political leader. This book shows precisely how he was.  Rarely was a political leader so complex and impossible to predict. Yet, he was scholarly and a thinker. He was very private too, and he was Canada’s prime minster four times between 1968 and 1984.

Canadian came to understand him more as he was in power. Pierre Trudeau had so many achievements, that once I saw them listed here, I was truly amazed and awestruck. He established the Charter of Rights and freedoms, multiculturalism, official bilingualism, equality, among the provinces, an international policy of peacekeeping and human security, and had become an inseparable part of the country. Now that is a resume, isn’t it?

Gwen is one of Canada’s most respected journalists and authorities on the life of Pierre Trudeau. This book could be used for kids and teens in educational settings as well as for the average person who wants to know more about the life of a truly wonderful prime minister.

I recommend this book for all Canadians interested in politics and Quebec. You will learn a lot about this truly remarkable man.
