Celebrating Excellence: Canadian Women Athletes
By Wendy Long

What a GREAT and inspiring celebration of all Canadian female athletes. It is amazing how many great women there are in Canada who have excelled in athletics. Some of these women have aspired to be great, despite physical challenges.

Wendy Long has been a sports writer and columnist for the Vancouver Sun for a long time. However, gathering all the information for these interviews must have been so difficult. But what a journey it must have been for Wendy. The stories are so inspiring and show that with determination anything is indeed possible. We can all excel beyond our comfort zones if only we have the courage to try.

This book primarily explores the lives and achievement of many Canadian women who made it to the top of the Olympic or world companionship podium. In addition, an effort was made to recognize those whose long-term commitment and participation made them an integral player in their sport even though they didn’t earn the title of Olympic champion. This makes this book a unique contribution to the literature on Canadian women athletes.

This book contains the stories of women who took on the challenge of finding out how good they could be in their chosen sport and persevered to become the best or at least as good as gold.
