Prayer: The Hidden Fire (100**)

Prayer: The Hidden Fire
By Tom Harper

This is a GREAT book by an author from Ontario about the power of Prayer. I have been reading quite a bit about prayer lately. And to read a book about prayer by a Canadian author has been an especially wonderful treat!

Tom Harper has been thinking, reading, and writing about religion and spirituality for over 25 years. He knows his material, and he writes about prayer with passion. I was enthralled by the book, and I have ordered my very own copy so that I could pursue it slowly before bed.

The book is about the power of prayer. Very few of us, even religious individuals who go to church and try to lead a holy life, know how to pray. Tom Harper dispels all the mysteries of prayer and discusses how to pray. We could pray anywhere: while walking, driving (alone), in the bath, while meditating, or just taking the time to be with God. Prayer doesn’t have to be complex. It should be simple to be the best that it could be. This is a wonderful thing to realize because I think most of us want to complicate prayer right out of our lives. And because we think it is complicated, we don’t pray. We just don’t make the effort.

However, in doing this, we miss out on forming the most meaningful and consistent relationship with God. This relationship could be consistent and unconditional–so unlike our human relationships. All we have to do is to reach out to God and talk to him in the simplest terms possible. Or, perhaps we could just spend time saying nothing but listening to his presence in our hearts.

Thank you Tom for such a GREAT and inspiring book!
