This is a unique book on Leadership in Canada by two prominent business women. It is a book that is full of information and principles that could be applied to every organization.
Leadership matters. It affects the success of any enterprise. Leadership is at the core of everything. Leadership is what we do in organizations if they are successful.
Leaders scan the environment, set a direction, align constituencies into the direction they want to go, and inspire and motivate. Anyone can become a leader if they are able to demonstrate the required behaviors and take appropriate action when it is needed.
Leadership has to do with the person. Everyone is called to be a leader, regardless of which level of management she is part of. Leadership can change the world and the environment of every company.
The purpose of leadership is service. To become a leader, an individual has to rise above their concerns and focus their energies on the purpose at hand. Leadership is not self-centered. It is demanding though.
When at its best, leadership inspires people to believe in something that doesn’t yet exist. Leadership begins with taking responsibility. A leader is in change and accountable for a situation.
Leadership is not about being on top. It’s about taking care of people. Leadership is a tremendous privilege. But leadership can be lonely and risky. So, you have to commit to the role.
Leaders must align their words and actions. They have to walk their talk and talk their walk. In other words, leaders must be consistent. Leadership is an act of collaboration. We have to establish authentic relationships.
The fundamental axis of leadership is inspiration. Passion is required to inspire. Developing talent requires fostering maturity and judgement.
I loved this book from beginning to end. Finally there is a book about leadership which is written by two prominent Canadian authors.
