Book Review For Canadian Book Challenge

Little Ladybug Earns Her Spots
By Frank Glew

This is a great picture book for kids of all ages. This picture book has a very important message. It is about a topic that many, if not most, kids can relate to. It is about looking and feeling different than the other kids, and how kids can be very cruel when they sense that there is a difference between you and others.

Since physical appearance rules in this age group, it seems that if someone looks different, even if it is subtlety different, they are ostracized and bullied too. But in addition to showing kids how to get over these bullies and mean kids, the book has a great lesson: What you are on the inside is much more important than on the outside. What a great message for kids of all ages.

I don’t want to wreck the story for potential parents and kids. So, I will just ask them to read it for themselves. You won’t be upset after reading it. In fact, I think that teachers should read the book with their classes too. Kids need to learn that they are indeed great just as they are. And that no matter how they look on the inside, the heart is the most part of the person.
